A Life in the Day

Absence makes the heart grow fonder,
And thus I awake to an empty bed.
It is this adage I solely ponder,
As the sadness infects my festerous head.

With a tear-drenched pillow,
And a searching sweeping hand.
And the knowing that my heart will willow,
Leaves a taste in my mouth only of bland.

Both hands of the clock are stuck showing a slight demise,
In the first quadrant, barely moving at all.
In another six hours, from the sky will arise,
A grand ascending fire ball.

My house will yearn and beckon,
And continue its ubiquitous call.
Feeling fortunate to have something, I reckon,
Is better than nothing at all.

Spirit saturated with sadness,
But no tangible feeling specific.
Mine eyes throb, and head spins with madness,
I portray a solitary island in the Pacific.

In my den, only parental pictures abide,
And in my bathroom, there's only one set of towels.
Sorrow sweeps through my body like a tide,
Starting and moving up from my bowels.

With occupation waiting the breaching day,
And another week painted mundane.
It's simply another week in May,
And my heart bleeds with this profuse pain.

Emotions are odd, varying in degree,
And they vary in range as well.
But loneliness covers every base in me,
And condemns me to a torturous hell.

With an obsessive nature, clarity is banished,
And level-headedness is a cruel joke.
With a swipe of the hand, self-esteem is vanished,
And every piece of advice feels like a poke.

An Abbott without the Costello,
A Bonnie without the Clyde,
Shakespeare with no Othello,
And a Dr. Jekyll with no Mr. Hyde.

Seclusion is a stunning bacterial virus,
That calculatingly moves with amazing speed.
And for us afflicted, it works to tire us,
Slowly our imagination and soul do bleed.

Eventually I find a friend in someone,
And she promises to teach me a life lesson.
One that can not be reversed, nor undone,
She goes by the name, Smith & Wesson.
