An Evening in the Dr. Julien’s House of Fashionable Pain

Crimson blood mixes with herbal dyes.
Saves on the costs of the red inks.
Doing it for art?
People will often suffer,
will often bleed for art.
Sadly,
People bleed for fashion and vanity more.
Look!
I paid 175 dollars to have Jerry Garcia needled into me.
Don’t worry about anything though they will say.
It’s not self-mutilation, we do it for you.
As long as you can afford it,
They will make you bleed.
All in the name of looking good.
Needles pierce color into the girl’s shoulder across the parlor from
me.
One-Thousand times a second.
She wants to cry, I can see the tears welling in her eyes,
But her man would never approve of that
He doesn’t like the way she looks when she cries.
He’s the one paying for her pain.
The butterflies on her breasts weren’t enough to please him.
She smiles with bemused pain,
just as she always does when she is with him.
I look at the shop motto pasted across the stomach of a nude
mannequin.
"It’s not self-mutilation…we do it for you!"
It makes me laugh.
175 dollars for pain
I could slam needles in my back for free,
But then you would say that I was insane.
