was not so long ago
a young man lifted hellfire to the lips
whispering in the soft sincerity of seduction.
feeling old and battered,
young enough to know the sun was setting
on everything which never mattered
like the crazy un-sense of exhausted youth.
digging holes to bury the innocence
stuck in your throat
like a bad cough.
challenging ideals with no regard for any Un-truth.
it was about t r a n s c e n d a n c e
but the word was becoming a front.
like some teenage liquore store selling
visions of glory and love.
was not so long ago
as the sun rose one morning down in fort lauderdale,
i looked over at her as she was sleeping
and knew the battle would never end.
