I’m Different

I see it in your eyes. The distrust.
I see it question every grain of my integrity.

There isn’t much to be said
that can alter what’s been done.
I see it my way
and of course,
you see it your way
(based on corrupted
and
tainted thoughts
influenced by those
who have tarnished
your views
on love and life).

Unfortunately there is only so much
I can say.

I have revealed my deepest self to you (I stand here naked)
and placed myself in the most vulnerable position…
in love.

I spoke to you with my heart
revealing thoughts
I never thought I would have a reason to utter
but my words fell upon deaf ears.

You refuse
to accept things
the way in which they are.

Instead you opt to arm yourself
by prejudging (thus giving your reason not to trust)
and alienate me.

The one thing
you fail to see
is that I am different…

Yes, I know…you’ve heard that before
but I really am…
