My Life As A Boy
Posted by
Mill Grey

From across the room she's merely a dream,
Just a shadow in a box full of roses.
I imagine at one time there was strength to be had,
That night, just a smoky blue haze.
I avoided her eyes, another breath in the air,
Me, just a ghost in the machine.
There was love to be had, love to be made,
But the extent of her majesty fooled me.
Like every strange night, in every strange life,
I pretended that girl just needed me.
It was the rush of the air, the strong wooden door,
That brought a snowflake in from the night.
It hit my cheek with a bright, bitter sting,
And I brushed it away with my hand.
The chill brought me sadness,
A sweetness I ached for,
And like every shadow, in every dream,
In every box of roses,
I turned away, into the night.
