The EmpireChapbook of:
"Lauren Thompson"

"Brandon now the Angels seek"

"So sad," they say "So sad,
he was my only son."
"Please tell me it's not so," I beg,
"Not to my Brandon"

But instead of what I wanted,
the room began to cry,
‘Sorry, Dear,’ is what they taunted,
‘He wasn't meant to die.’

‘Too, soon,’ they say, ‘too soon,
for his life to have gone.’
‘No, he's asleep,’ I say ‘you’re wrong.’

‘It was a fateful leap,’ they say
‘for him to ride along.
He didn't see the Jeep,
that was coming oh so strong.
Brandon now the angels seek,
singing their sweet song,’
And with a weep,
‘In Heaven now, where he belongs.’

‘You really mustn't cry,’ I said,
‘You really mustn't cry.
No one that I know and love,
is allowed to die.’

"On the Devil’s Land"

Screeching cries fill the air,
the doomed souls are everywhere.
And souls of sin are in despair,
even innocents take on dares.
For good and evil, they don’t care.
Purity is no longer there.

The guilty pay forevermore,
inflicting pain behind closed doors.
From the killers to the whores,
they make penance with their chores .

But here I am on The Devil's Land,
I have been his right hand.
By his side, I abide.
But not this time, this has gone out of line.

Lurking here, a gargoyle.
All his plans about to spoil,
all his slaves will soon recoil.
Hell will really start to boil.

Sharp claws clutch thorned branches,
my words touch the damned in trances.
All my evil only enhances,
the meanings of their quick glances.
It's agreed to take some chances.

So I went out to start my mission,
of undoing his decision.
I must use utmost precision,
to escape my master's vision.

I repeat this chant,
as an answer to their rant.
It is freedom I will grant.
From the elders to infants,
in each and every occupant.
Some people here need not repent,
their innocence is prominent.

So I enter as their defender,
even if this endeavor
seems to take me forever,
my motto is ‘Never Surrender.’

I have planned out my procedure.
No more of this search and seizure.
I will give them back their leisure.

The dripping blood of these men,
that dried before will drip again.
Like rain drops, the colors blend.
To erase the forsaken.
A pitter-patter that awakens,
they'll fight for what's been taken.

They all saw their dripping blood,
and it's still not understood.
Up above blinded by love,
they never sent a white dove.

So I have come to interrupt,
all that has become corrupt .

Sharp crosses burst
up from the earth.
Even to the very first
of the men who had been cursed,
it is time for their rebirth.

All the sky went jet black,
filling up with the wings of bats.
Everything was till intact,
each and every artifact.

Even though they were deemed rotten,
their injustice was not forgotten.

All of them who died in war,
will never do another chore.

I will try to revive,
every man that has died,
and give them all back their lives.

"Our Lives"

Maybe you've got a better attitude,
or maybe you just know how to act cool.

Because for some reason you think that you are better than me.
But isn't it true you die just as easily?

Our lives have the same value,
I am dead and so are you.

So doesn’t that make us equal?
We have nothing but our soul.

So doesn’t that make us even?
you are nothing if you aren’t breathin.'

"Can’t Escape"

My arms are not a part of me,
they are just something I cannot free.

No matter how hard I try to breech,
I can't escape my own reach.

"Listen & Learn"

I wander off into personal thoughts that have always been there,
about crazy things.

It doesn't matter, don’t worry,
it doesn't come from you.

We just think the same,
maybe we should try to figure it out.

The stars tell me that there are lots of weird things,
this one is patterns in our lives.
It is purple with sparkles.

Isn't it neat that it repeats forever,
even when were gone?
Will it always be this way,
forever living here?

Heat waves come down in angry rays
and the earth ceases to move.

In that instant we all find peace within ourselves.
Slowly my sorry glare turns into a look of curiosity and openness.
I am here to listen and learn.

"Music"

The necklace leans towards the center of gravity.
Tearing me between two lives of it’s own,
as it swings from right to left,
hypnotizing me.

One pulls me with it's screams and voice
the other with it's beats and choice.

They come from another planet,
and draw us with their magnet.

Paint us pretty and oh-so-sad.
Here for us, ashes to dust.

They pick and choose who will, will
and who will, wont.

"Watch My Heart Break"

Sitting there at my window,
awaiting your replies to my snide remarks.
Completely unscathed by the thought,
expecting your predictable retorts.

But instead what I heard did more that shock,
it shook my very foundations.
The carpet of my world was violently pulled from beneath me,
knocking me swiftly on my ass.

And the cause of all this had no remorse.
The cause of all this did not even know that I fell,
because I did it to myself.

The walls of my reality came crashing down around me.
I looked at you, knowing what you said was the truth,
knowing you could see how I felt.

I saw you watch my heart break.
I saw how it affected you.

I couldn't feel anything but the wind going right through me, the stiffening of my features,
The hardening of my bones, and the world spinning without me.

A direct stab to my heart you gave me,
a perfectly clean blow.
You knew just what to aim for.
Not even a lie could hurt this bad, and you knew that.

I was secure in my beliefs,
and with one foul swoop,
you managed to take it all away.
.
Everything I thought I had was now just a pile of wreckage,
under which I was completely trapped.

I peered at you through the rubble I was now tangled beneath,
not looking for your hand to help me out,
because with what you said it was understood,
you were not mine anymore.

"To The One I Love"

I know that you loved me,
and I really don't see why.

But if you'd be my baby,
lets give it another try.

Aren't you the one who said,
‘Without you I'd be dead’?

"No Strings Attached"

No strings attached,
beautiful.

No turbulence,
just romance.

Maybe just by circumstance,
you could find me.

And with no strings attached,
we'd be beautiful,
in romance.

Maybe if given another chance,
we'd be happy.

Isn't it worth enough,
to you?
Our romance?

‘Cos if you think it's worth a try,
then come find me.

With no strings attached,
we'd be beautiful.

No turbulence,
anymore.

‘Cos I love you.
Do you know what that means,
to me?
Well apparently,
you don't.

"The Water Tower"

They are so depressed they don't even know it,
in a generation where it's advised to lie.

A device so ancient,
that it's modern enough to last forever.

Everything that starts must stop.
Nothing lasts forever.
