night parking lot. . . 
sudden car horn
knifes my back


her cherry nails 
against the gray print
scanning the obits


hills fade 
in the broad flood of headlights 
a woman ghostbright


cooling grasses 
tears that start in her eyes 
run down my face


cold snap 
steam slowly unfurls 
from the sewage pond


Bourgas night
a yapping dog stops
another car alarm


sea blue eyes
her fingers graze my palm
giving change

her lush lips part 
to a gentle snore,
airport wait


airport runway grass-- 
watching it blow
in all directions


trying not to look 
again, she adjusts 
her blouse V


the curve of her lip 
will never 
feel my tongue


restless dreams 
a howling train whistle 
becomes my voice


waking to 
the daily sameness --
shoes neatly paired
