"Two AM - Oct. 5, 1996"
That moon you told me about
stopped by last night.
Through my dreams, I heard it say,
"Wake up. Look at me, you lazy kid."
The room was bright with silverfall
that brushed my face like a mother's touch.
From my cherished darkness, I replied,
"Why must I look at you?"
"I can teach you things", said the moon.
"I have witnessed the obscene and the heroic,
the savage and the civilized,
the profane and the sacred."
I took another peek at the big eye
of this lunatic philosopher and wondered.
"Can you teach me about patience, reverence
and forgiveness?" I asked.
"I can teach you the truth only," spoke the moon.
"My truth is the only truth.
It can be nothing else.
For I will not die
and I have seen all of mankind."
