"The Wall"
Built on a foundation of fear,
mortared with grief,
reinforced with remorse.
The first course laid long ago,
to guard the delicate interior,
to bar unwanted intruders.
More living, more layers,
to defend from further damage.
So massive, thick and towering
no light can penetrate.
It now imprisons,
preventing entrance
but denying escape.
And so remains the protected,
the untouchable life force,
a sheltered core of being,
darkened and dusty
safe within its confinement
a fastidious wall of permanence.
