"Bittersweet Memories"

I remember the long gone days of innocence
Of a thousand fields of pure and youthful dreams
As I lay in the soft, green grass upon my back
Watching snow white clouds and azure-blue sky scenes

I recall the carefree days when I was young
As the softest breeze caressed with its warm embrace
And the whole wide world seemed so much kinder then
As my heart believed that life would meet with grace

I can hear the sound of that unforgotten time
In the echoes of the songs of yesterday
And I ponder why such sanguine memories
Flood my spirit with a lonesome, stinging pain

I remember friends who’ve left this world behind
Passing on to the other shore. . .to the other side
Yet I never dreamed that they’d be gone so soon
With no time to bid them one last sweet goodbye
