"Leaving Lockport"
The light from down the hall uncovers
the white of the waves on the lake.
The sky cringes, loses color,
bleeds into the base of the water.
A cold flake lands on my forehead,
melts and cries its color into my eye.
Unlocked at last from port,
I was right to float away,
my faded paint hull
turned into the current,
into the light from down the hall.
